Silencing key-in/door-open beep

Silencing key-in/door-open beep
Does anyone know how to silence the beep that occurs when you leave the key in the car and open the door (also the seatbelt beeping). I find both annoying since I often insert the key and then close the door, similarly I usually start the ignition before putting on my seatbelt.
On my old Audi (1986 4000Q) the sound came from a small relay like box which had a speaker in it, removing this silenced the car (but everything else still worked). I removed the fuse cover from my A6 and it appears that the same might be the case still (the sound comes from the area where the relays are). However, access to this area seems difficult (I can reach in via the fuse cover opening and get to a couple of relays, but neither is the beeping one). Before I spend a lot more time on this has anyone done this?

Here's how to silence it,
The beeper is no longer on a relay that you can pull out. It's inside the instrument cluster, soldered onto the circuit board. It's not too hard to cut if you're handy with tools and can desolder PCB parts. Takes about an hour, maybe less.
