Default Door locks gone haywire!

Hope someone can help me out here. My 1994 100 Avant is having some issues with the doors locking automatically. This month the car has started locking the doors automatically immediately after I enter. While driving they continue to lock themselves every minute or so. I could live with it, except that the automatic unlock button on the drivers door won't unlock the rest of the doors and I must exit and use the key to unlock the doors for any unlucky passengers. Obviously this is incredibly unsafe if I ever have an accident. Up until now the doors never automatically locked while driving.

Any suggestions for a fix would be much appreciated!

In the engine bay beneath the windscreen under the plastic cover you'll find a cluster of fuses in a box A3 is for central locking. Pull it and have a look, and check for any muck, corrosion etc. If you leave the fuse out you'll have "cured" the problem and pushing the plungers down to lock doors isn't a big deal.

I can tell you almost definitively that the problem is going to be in the wiring boot that goes from the body to the rear hatch.

To check, open your hatch and pull the boot back from the hatch to expose the wires. You'll probably see a mess of cracked insulation and several wires touching. To fix, you'll need to take off the interior trim in that corner and possibly the hatch depending on where the cracking is. I had enough slack (like an extra foot) in the wiring harness by rerouting it a bit on the inside that I didn't have to use any extra wire. Get out the solder and heat shrinking because there are something like 15 wires, all small gauge, and there's not enough room to put wiring splicers on all of them. Once the wires were all together I coated them with dialectric grease to prevent the wires freom binding, pulled the slack back into the body and put it back together.

Thanks!
It was the rear hatch wiring. 2/3 of the wires had split and were shorting out causing all sorts of mysterious problems. All fixed now!
