UUC Short Shifter Version 2
I just installed the UUC Short Shifter v2 with the 40 percent reduction setting. I did the install with the help of a friend who has all the necessary tools. It probably took us a little over an hour, but we really took our time. This is one of those jobs you can do yourself with the right tools.
The end result is awesome. No more slop! The throws are short and crisp. I have to agree with Peter that this is the most essential mod for the 2.7T 6-speed. Also added the MOMO Aluminum Sport shift ****, which required cutting the shift boot's plastic insert down about 1.25" (I forget the exact measurement).
Now it looks nicer and shifts A LOT nicer. It actually makes me wonder what Audi is doing putting such a peice of crap mechanism in there to start. I do not doubt that sales are lost to BMW because of this alone.

Cool! Glad it was a success. I think you may be right about lost sales because of sloppy shifter....
It cant be that much more expensive to install tighter shifter linkage. Even though I have the 4.2, I have always wondered why the 2.7T's manual linkage is so loose feeling. My last car, a Volvo V70 T-5 had a manual and it was much better than Audi's stock unit.

I will try to remember to take a tape down and measure it next time I get a chance. The MOMO shift **** is a little shorter, so that might make a slight difference too....
