A6 2.7T questions on lighting
On page 134 of the A6 handbook under instrument illumination, its states that brightness in the cluster is automatic and adjusts to lighting conditions. In other words, when I pulled in the garage in my A4, the cluster lit up, because it was darker in there. Not so in my A6. The parking or head lights have to be on. Have I got a fault? What does yours do?
Also, on page 153, under ambient lighting, it states that the door handle lights
(window switches?) and the diodes in the overhead come on whenever the ignition is 'on'. Mine don't. They only come on when lights are 'on'. Yours? I will really appreciate some help on these items. Thanks.

My (4.2) gauge lights are only on when the parking/headlights switch is on.
The ambient door lights the manual is referring to is a backlight that fills the door handle "scoop out" with red light. The ambient lights in my car are only on when the parking/headlights switch is on.
BTW, The manuals that accompanied my 4.2 have the worst foreign language to english translations I have ever seen in a manual of a foreign car I have owned.

Well, thanks Stu B. I'm sure the 4.2 amd 2.7 are the same in this regard. Its a shame they have changed from what I had on my A4. I really liked the dash cluster lighting up by itself when needed. And, you're right - the manual leaves a lot to be desired, like it's not clear on this lighting situation.
