Any info on the 4-speed automatic in the UrS6/other models please...
Anyone driven this autobox? Shiftpoints? Does it have DSP or a sport setting - does it need one?
Since this 4-speed wasn't available int he UrS6 in the US, what about other models of that age (96) with a 4-speed ?
Thanks,
Laurens
In terms of intended performance, the transmission seems to adjust to your driving style. But even so, it shifts into 2nd gear at 3-10 mph in normal driving, and will only make it to a respectable 20-25mph in 1st if you accelerate rather heavily, which usually isn't needed on the streets.
I'd say you'd be on your own if you added anything in terms of hp to 20v already at 258ft-lbs of torque… and a 4.2 w/4-speed being at 290hp on the S6 4.2, torque is probably at 300ft-lbs++. I just doubt the 4-speed could handle that much torque without failing. I’d doubt it at 258ft-lbs in the 20v UrS6. Plus performance is hurt by the 4-speed... you'll lose over a second on 0-100km acceleration.
If I had the choice I'd go with the 5-speed (or 6-speed on 4.2 or S6 Plus). Just IMO, I don't think the transmission is built well enough to hold up to high(er) torque loads.
Good luck...
>>Muhammad

UrS6 avants. All with the 4-speed automatic. I
(yet) don't know their milage.
They're the 4.2l versions which I'm not after,
the 2.2l should be enough and saves fuel, and I
like the sedan better, but they're rare in Europe.
Thanks for your reply!
I am no automotive technician so I don't know exactly what type of additional strain Quattro puts in the transmission, but I would say it must count for something from the driving feel of both cars.
>>Muhammad

I would not buy one of these cars, personally, but that is due to my manual transmission bias.
The same box is in the V8 and the A8 (basically- the early A8s w/ the 4-speed), so I don't see a problem w/ the torque capacity unless you plan on doing something that would radically increase the torque output (twin turbos, supercharger or the like).

or are they all alike as in that they're 4-speed?
As a comparison: a 1.8T tip is different from a
S6 4.2 tip although they're all 5-speed.
Thanks!
