Default 2.7T vs 4.2 washer cap design

It's getting boring so maybe this will generate some action.
Apart from being smooth with the bumper, has anyone ever compared the mounting differences between the 2.7 & 4.2 washer caps? I've read quite a few complaints on caps flying off on 2.7T's but not one on 4.2's. I don't think the smoothness has anything to do with it cause most flew off while when the car is moving.

Default The only thing I can think of.....

is the lip from the overlap on the 2.8 and 2.7T's cap that the 4.2 does not have catches the air.

But the cap only flys off if the washer is activated. Not while it's stationary on the bumper. That means it's the airflow from underneath the cap peeling it off.
If that's the case, then unless the mounting is different between 2.7/4.2, they should both have this problem.

Default The is no vertical give on the caps even when 1/2 fastened.

The only way to pop the caps is to activate the washers. To pull them out/up w/o activating the headlights and washers in nearly impossible.

What happened in my case is that one of the two jet nozzles that spray onto the headlights were missing on each side. Leaving on of the jets pointing straight up, and only aiding the bad cap locking design in dislodging the caps while in use.

But if you're driving, with the headlights one, and you only have 1 of the 2 nozzles, you're pretty much out of luck. BTW- the replacement of the jet nozzles is under warranty, hence the caps can be replaced if this is the case.

my $0.02,
Ernesto

Default Not necessarily (sp?).....

When the washer is activated, it obviously pops-up. While the mechanism is engaged (poped-up), then the lip that over-laps the bumper surface is exposed like a little sail. There is a good 1/4" of lip there to catch wind that is not present on the 4.2's flush fitting cap. It is like an awning over a window that catches high-speed wind and flies off the side of a building. That is just my theory ;-)
