My windshield wipers have literally dissentigrated!?!?
I was driving home the other day and I kept hearing something tapping against the front windshield. Upon closer inspection I discovered that the rubber wipers (a little over 1 year old) have completely fallen apart. Anyone else have any problems with this? Does anyone have any recommendations for new wipers that have better longevity?

They may be old, defective, or the windsheild dirty on a regular basis when wipers are used.
If it is summer and there isn't much rain, put a little Meguiars rubber protectant on them - make sure to wipe extra product off thoroughly. Clean the windsheild once a year with windsheild cleaner paste ( most big auto stores ). Looks like toothpaste - which can work as well. RainX can help there too.

Wipers are covered under the warranty/maintenance.
Pray/New COuntry in CT has changed them twice in 3 years for me. I didn't even wait for them to disintegrate. Usually 1-2 good winters are enuf for me to complain and they change.<p>Saty C

Don't know about better longevity, but...
the Audi "OEM" blades are simply Bosch Xcel blades and do a really nice job of wiping. $20-25/yr. isn't that big a deal for clear vision in my opinion, even if the dealer won't cover replacement. I've used the Bosches on many cars and have always been happy with their performance.<p><img SRC=http://home.earthlink.net/~gstahara/Graphics/Coloraudi.jpg Border=0></a>

Aha! Someone has discovered the same thing that I did. Audi chintzed on wiper blades. I am on my third set in a year of owning my '99. The first set were so dry that I had to replace them within two months; the service advisor said that "Seattle streets and weather are hard on them"; and my reply was "they (Seattle streets and weather) don't seem to be hard on my Subaru's blades. We replace them once a year".
It's fine as long as Audi picks up the tab, but a bit of a nuisance just the same. I'm hoping that after the warranty expires I'll be able to get them aftermarket.
