Default windshield issues

does anyone else have an issue with their windshields in terms of pits or wear. I have just under 11,000 miles, always garaged and typically driven on nice days. I have noticed that the windshield has not held up well in terms of pitts. Kind of like when you look through the windshield in sunlight you get that crystal effect or something when its 5-6 years old. Anyone.

Most German cars I've owned (Porsche's) have the same problem.

Mines got em too. No fix other than a new one. Hope you get a stress crack or a rock takes it out and you've got insurance!

Default i figured it was the effects of road debris, bugs, sand, whatever

slamming into the glass day after day.

Default The bugs themselves are to blame...

A dealer told me and my father once what happens. When a certain type of bug (i forget which types) dies on your windshield, their internal fluids (for lack of a better term) are actually acidic, causing the dead bug to etch the
glass, causing that spotty, smeary look at certain angles.

we had a brand new car that had a windshield like that. then we wondered why and when we took it back to the dealer, that's what he said usually happens. cars will sit on the lot and these bugs die on the windshields, causing them to get etched.

now, of course, i've never seen any actual documentation on this, but that's just what i was told. seems reasonable i guess.. :-?
