Default Scratch on my bumper

A while back I rented an air compressor. Since I am retarded, I underestimated the weight (a lot) when I took it out of the trunk to return it, and it scratch my back bumper (see pic). I'm wondering how a shop would approach fixing this. Is there ANYthing that could truly be done? The plastic is lightly gouged. I assume I could rub some black shoe polish in it for now, since the scratch is white. Is there anything that could be done to fill/sand it, and is it worth the trouble?

Maybe you can just get the bumper stripper, sanded, and repainted? If you want to spend a couple hundred+. I just had a whole new bumper put on for $860 (damage was a big dent).

Default Quick and sleazy trick...

Wax the scratch with a coat of colored wax available at places like Pep Boys. My wife has a black car and is the scratch queen. The colored wax somewhat hides the deep scratches.

I suspect you'll find that stripping, sanding and repainting it is more like $400 or more.

Default Just got two quotes for mine... $250 for the rear bumper, to repair/paint a scratch/gouge...

Includes repainting the entire bumper. They only need to lightly sand the gouged area, not the entire bumper.

Default Here's another thing to consider...

It works OK but it didn't work as good as they claimed (for me). It also takes several applications for deeper scratches. Also, for a scratch like you have you will need a little practice to learn the right "technique" to make it look decent. When finished you will probably still be able to notice the scratch but it won't slap you in the face every time you walk up to the car. If you can live with that then this should work. If not, I suggest you get it refinished.

http://www.langka.com/nfhow.htm#top</a

Default That's interesting . . .

I gouged the rear bumper of my silver car and the plastic underneath is black, or at least, very dark gray. Could it be you only got the clear coat?

Default Did you ever fix the "gouge".....

I have the same color and I "gouged" the back bumper also on a 2 week old A6. I underestimated the length of the Car(Previously owned an Infiniti G20) when I pulled into my garage. Everytime I look at it, I kick myself in the a**

Default So, there are two of us? (LOL)

I did exactly the same thing on the third day of having the car. My previous ES300 was a little shorter, and I was paranoid about catching the front bumper when I pulled in. I didn't. Instead I had the garage door interior handle rake across the bumper when I closed it.

It left 3 VERY narrow scratches about 1/2" to 3/4" long. After my initial horror, I realized you have to be looking for them to notice them. I still plan on attempting repair. I bought an Audi touchup kit and some LANGKA. Silver is a two-step kit with metallic paint and clear coat. I'm going to experiment with the touchup when I finally get serious about polishing the car. I plan on trying to confine the paint to the very narrow but deep gouge, and see how it looks. I think this will take a light touch and patience. Depending on the results it yields, I'll decide whether I want to attempt further coats, and whether I'll bother with the LANGKA. Some folks have reported mixed results, and since the tracks are so narrow, it might not be worth the risk.
