When selling/donating/trading, make sure you do all the paperwork
I'm sure it's different in each state, but make sure if you don't have the car anymore you're not responsible for it either. This can happen quite easily. Article in Auto World Weekly about people who donate cars to charity (radio is full of those ads here in So Cal) and then get tickets/impound notices months later because ... they never did the release of liability form and technically it's still their car.
This would have happened to me when my Chase lease ended if I hadn't thought to download the CA DMV form and send it in, because the tow truck driver they sent had me fill out only the federal odometer form.

That sounds right
Surprisingly, the Cal DMV is very modern and all forms are available as PDF files.
My registration was also due, so I sent it in with a note saying that I no longer had the car so I would not be renewing said reg.
Never heard a peep from Chase.
