Default Do all TIPs act like this? Will a chip help?

With my limited exprerience with the TIP I am not sure if this is normal. Unless I am full on with the gas the TIP shifts from 1st to 2nd early leaving the car in kind of a hesitation mode as the RPMs come up, almost like starting in 2nd gear. Dealer says everything checks out as normal.
Seems dangerous to pull out in trafic and have it shift to 2nd and bog due to low RPMs. Is this something a TIP chip would correct?

Default normal, and no chip has overcome this yet

I'd call it far from bogging, but then the 2.7T is geared a lot lower.

Use more pedal, then it will shift later.

The engine has plenty of torque to handle 2nd from a stop

It will improve as the TIP "adapts" to your driving style. Don't know how or why. I had similiar complaints, eg, pulling out in traffic. Still not perfect but certainly not as noticeable. PS: Another quirk is that responsiveness is better with partial throttle vs mashing it?

Default True...

Giving only a steady press to the accelerator versus a jab is still hard for me to get used to.

Default Normal

Thanks all, feel like I dont have to fix it now.
yes the engine has plenty of torque in 2nd but it does delay as it shifts to 2nd.I'll play with different throttle openings. Mabey I am a little to gentle with this car but to keep it in 1st is like drag racing.

I find that after awhile I dont mind the auto shift 1 to 2. If you stay off the kickdown switch but give it some throttle, the car moves along fine. In fact, the car can reach 30 so quick, I dont know if I would be able to respond fast enough to shift it correctly while in Tip mode.
I have found that staying just above or just barely touching the kickdown allows for the best shifts between all the gears(if your trying to get on freeway or need some extra oomph). Going WOT seems to slow the shift between the gears. I do not know why but have verified it using timing devices.
Even if you dont go WOT and press firmly on the gas, the shift will occur a little higher in the RPM range.
While doing testing with a gtech we found that staying off the kickdown switch improved 0-60 times from .15 to .22. And during these runs it felt as if the 1-2 shift happened quicker. I have tryied to contact Garrett and found out if there was an explanation and will post when I get an answer. The above tests were done with a GIAC TIp chip "race version".
We tried a bonestock A6 Tip and the shifts also felt a shade quicker, but did not have a gtech to measure. Oh ya, all this was done in "D" mode. We found it better to leave it there for straight line stuff. Too hard to hit the shift points correctly while in Tip mode.

Think tranny has a "protection" mode when it gets the WOT signal from the engine ECU.

Default Re: What your feeling is normal. The quick shift has two functions.

The first thing is that it allows you to get better milage.

Second, it helps protect the transmission.

Default I remember reading in the manual that...

tiptronic will always upshift from 1 to 2 once hitting 5mph, unless pedal position is greater than 80%
