Default 2.7T overfilled at oil change

My dealer overfilled the engine by about a quart and it was not discovered for about a week. The excess oil has been pumped out since. Any damage or concern I should have due to this mishap?

Default Just note date/mileage in your files

If you ever have engine/catalytic problems, you can start out by blaming them.

The only problem I ever heard of relating to overfilling (other than pumping oil out the breather) is oil foaming. If the engine is severly overfilled the crank will splash the oil around and put a lot of air into the oil. The hydraulic lifters (I don't even know for sure if the A6 has hydraulic lifters) will colapse and the valve won't open properly. The problem will go away when you drain out the excess oil. I guess the foamy oil may not support the bearings properly and/or the oil pressure could drop.

It also occurs to me that you could have some problems due to oil going into the intake manifold from the crankcase vent but this oil would just go into the cylinders and burn (some pollution, maybe catalist damage).

Keep in mind that all the above is with a severly overfilled engine. The one time I actually saw these things was on a friends Chevy. His dad had the oil "changed" but the mechanic forgot to drain the oil. He added 5 quarts to an already full crankcase so the engine had at least twice as much oil as normal. I drove the car that way for several hundred miles and didn't notice much other than low power (but it was a 6cyl Malibu with a 2 speed auto, so it had no power on the best of days). When my friends dad got the car back he thought I had broken his car until he took it to his mechanic who, fortunately, admitted to his error. The car seemed to be undamaged, by the way.

Default 6 cyl Malibu

Had a 6 cyl Malibu that I shifted from Drive into Reverse a couple of times before quickly putting it into Neutral. This happened while doing about 35mph and trying to find Neutral on slick surfaces to brake. Aside from my embarrassment at such dumb and unskilled driving, no harm done. One of the few advantages of a sloppy but bulletproof GM auto tranny. Despite how poorly this car was put together, nothing had to be done to it in 80K+ other than routine maintenance.

Thanks all, I have logged a complaint with the dealer just in case.
