"Brake" on center display of wife's car...'00 4.2Q

Unfortunately she has the owner's manual with her and is 'manual' challenged! My take on it is a lightbulb is out but I won't be able to look at it until tomorrow. The car apparently still brakes excellently.

Or could it be worn brake pads? (Which would really irritate me since the car just came out of service two weeks ago and I specifically asked them to check the pads for wear!).

Anyone have an owner's manual handy on what the 'brake' means?

If the word "BRAKE" is illuminated, it means a light bulb is out, or there is a problem with the electrical system. If a brake symbol is illuminated, it means have your brake pads checked ASAP.

Actualy - mine says "BRAKE LIGHT". Perhaps the 4.2 is different, but I do not think so.

It means the emergency brake is not all the way down.

Happens to me sometimes. Hard to feel when it is fully down, at least with that console in the way.

There may be other functions... I'll have to read the manual.

You could try cycling through that silly little A-OK video

If you lightly push the **** that sets the clock, the central display runs through its little checklist of animated icons to tell you that everything's OK. If not, it should stop at the appropriate icon and give a short text message.

is it a red light that says brake in the right side of the cluster?is the message in drivers display?need more info.note;brake pad warning is displayed in the drivers display in a circle with outlines
