Default A6 - PRO = not a TT VW beatle look a like deathtrap...........A6 - CON = none

Most practicle AUDI made.......

I would go for the 2.7t... Same performance of the 4.2 but for $10k less......assuming she wants an auto tranny......I bought the 2.7t because of the 6 speed over the 4.2 auto

Your mom could care less about the 4.2 superior looking rear quarter (fender flares and wider tires)......that is basically the only difference

2.7t = same performance as 4.2 for much less money and a little better weight distribution. 4.2 = better throttle response at low speeds, slightly different look and rarer. You can get wide wheels as a factory option on either car.

Default I think that someone calculated that the price difference is not $10K.....

it's more like $5K or 6K (?) as the 4.2 comes with more standard ammenities that have to be ordered as options on other models. I do not know that this is the case with 2002 models. The 2.7 does out-spec the 4.2 performance wise.

The 4.2 has other things that she probably would not care about (lower, wider track, more aluminum parts, electric steering wheel option (both heat and adjustment), rear "bucket seats", etc. and some of those are options that will just cost more.

Get the Sport package on either one so she won't be whaling around out there (she'll just be wailing around).

Maybe at first (if $'s not too big an issue), just let her take each one out for a drive and see if she has an immediate preference toward one or the other. Don't let the saleman sell her on either, just drive 'em!

Have fun, good luck.

Default I don't know what kinda mom you got...but mine would need a 3.0...but between 2.7T and 4.2...

I'd say 4.2 (in fact I did say "4.2") unless she wants to drive a stick. If she likes quieter, lower revs, and effortless power the 4.2 is the answer. If she wants to track it (what kinda mom does?) or has a 3rd person to sit in the middle of the back seat, I'd go with the 2.7T.
Looks-wise, the 4.2 wins in most people's minds. As what LMGotts4.2 said about the increased amount of standard goodies in the 4.2, plus the steering wheel moves out of your way when getting out and then is part of the memory when getting back in...right back to where you want it...very nice...also very helpful for those of enhanced abdominal girth.
Several 2.7T owners repeatedly say the 4.2 is not worth the extra jack, but 4.2 owners almost univerally feel it is (~$6k)...what she thinks is up to her.
Agree, she should get the sport suspension and wheels even if she is not so sporty, because the sport suspension is not super sporty and hard anyway (it's what the standard should be) and the suspension, seats, and especially the wheels are a bargain for the price of the package.
If your mom likes exclusivity at all...go for the 4.2...those bad boys are rare...even in Audi-infested areas like the northeast.
Enjoy.

Default Hey, the TT is one of the most copied cars out there. Drives pretty nice on the street too.

Nimble, easy to park, cache with the masses, makes cool growly noises, Haldex allows for easier oversteer w/esp off, and comes ONLY in stickshift.

Not sure about the TT, but the New Beetle was rated safest car in its class.
