Default S4 or A6 4.2?

I am looking to go back to Audi and am torn between the S4 and A6 4.2. I now drive a G35 Coupe with the lease ending soon. Had an A4 1.8T M that I put the GIAC chip in and loved it. How different are the 2?

No offense, but if you're not sure between those, you shouldn't be getting an S4

Default Similar (but different) motors.

The S4 is a muscle car. The A6 is a larger midsize luxo sedan. More passenger and trunk room in the A6. More fun, better handling, better performance in the S4. A6 4.2 only comes in Auto trans. My previous car was an A6 2.7t 6MT. I like the S4 much better. Coming from the G35, you might be bored with the A6? Perhaps not.

I still have a lease on A6 C6 3.2 that I'm about to break due to big problems I had with my car. I'm looking to get into an fully loaded S4.

If you prefer space in the car, very cool technology and solid performance I would go with A6 4.2. 3.2 is just too slow for my taste to begin with but I LOVE it to death because it's so elegant, incredible interior with super feel when you drive it.

Then, I drove an S4. I'm 30, single and I just couldn't get away from the feeling that I felt like a 50 year old driving an A6. 4.2 A6 is noticably slower then S4, however it all depends whether you want that adrenaline rush when you're driving a car or not. 4.2 A6 will try to give you that, but it won't be there quite yet. On the other hand I find S4's interior pleasant enough with enough technology to keep me happy, but this is only if it's a fully loaded one. I'm still not 100% undecided because A6 noticably more comfortable and bigger inside and it looks very sharp, especially when you tint the windows, lower it with Eibach Pro Kit and put some nice wheels.

It's all up to your own feelings. If you feel like you are up to chasing chicks, want that adrenaline rush, don't need that much space to begin with and you want to "feel" the car, you will be much happier with S4.

In my opinion, S6 is a perfect car for me that combines both worlds, however at $75k to boot is not really something I'm willing to dive in with payments no matter that it's a lease and it's tax deductable.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers.

P.S. I got definitely more looks on the street driving my A6 then driving an A4 or S4. If that means anything to you.

Here's my A6 that I'll be parting with next week.

That's a nice A6, but you got more looks than with an S4? I find that hard to believe. I need to put a force field around my car to prevent people from stairing. And that is to say nothing of people I catch with their face two inches from the windows, peering in while its parked in a parking lot. Maybe it's the silver mirrors or the Silver Alcantara, but I have never been as attracted to an A6 as I have an S4. After the S4 I find the A8 the most attractive Audi in the fleet.

But its all 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other right? These are all beautiful cars.

I agree with everything else you said though.

I don't know what that means. He's asking because he's trying to get more information. How else do you become "sure" of anything?

I say drive them both to find out what you prefer. That is the only way you'll ever know. They are totaly different cars.

I had the chance to drive an A6 as a loner from my dealer when I had to hand my S4 in on the morning of Christmas Eve before a big trip. I enjoyed the car a lot, but the handling, braking and road feel was much more oriented to luxury and comfort than sports and performance. It felt like a highly elegant tank. I was happy to get back in the S4, which is like an agile rocket ship in comparison.

But again, its all preference. Try em both.

Default you need to drive both.

the A6 4.2 feels like a big, sloppy S4....but that's OK, because sometimes you want to be big and sloppy. I almost bought one, but decided on the 750i instead.
