Default Problems with 2002 A6 2.7T outside air temp sensor and A/C?

Wondering whether any of you with a new A6 are showing significant errors on outside air temp and have your A/C coming on when it is 45 outside like I am. I would say air temp is showing 5-10 degrees too high, even after running for awhile at speed. The dealer checked it and found no errors showing up on the VAG so therefor there is no problem according to them. I understand the A/C fault codes have changed this year and no one has figured out the new ones yet so I can't check it myself. Any thoughts?

Default Think your dealer needs to get serious.

My '01 may read a degree or two higher than it should, but that's all. Climate control works great.

Default Re: Problems with 2002 A6 2.7T outside air temp sensor and A/C?

My '02 2.7T 6sp has 350 miles and the outside air temp seems to be accurate and AC does not turn on at 28-35 deg temps. Can't wait to get over break in, this thing just wants to rip.

Default You should shut off the compressor when not needed

by keeping the system in ECON mode. Reduces drag on engine, increasing power and mileage, and helps keep that lovely mold culture from forming in the condensor. Make sure you do run the A/C a coupla times a month just to keep the system lubed and happy.

As for the temp diff, that is pretty extreme. Insist on a new temp probe and see if it's any better.

Yeah. I have always done that but now I have to or I would freeze my *** off. Of course it would be nice to have some heat without turning the temp up to 75.

Default Not exactly addressing this problem, but this climate control system is the best I've used

I set mine on 71 and have not touched it in weeks. I was always adjusting the one in the A4. The ultimate test is whether or not my wife feels the need to mess with it. She hasn't complained about "air blowing on her" yet.

Outside temp - no problems.

Default Does it show correct temperature while you driwing.

When you stending the hot air from the engine affects outside thermometer readings.

Also the AC behavior sounds normal - it is trying to keep your windows from fogging.

Default I agree the A/C is just doing it's job. If you are comfortable don't worry about it.

If you put it in the defrost mode it would kick in then as well. With a tip (and maybe with a six speed) it will cut out if you mash the accelerator anyway.

Default It's not bad, but ...

when there's a big diff between interal and external temps, sometimes it has a hard time deciding which temp is right. My mom was complaining last week when we got into the car after it had been parked for a while, it was blowing pretty hard and she of course blamed me.

Default Common problem: sensor falls from mount. Look in front of radiator... (more issues in msg)

The sensor is mounted horizonally and aiming towards the center of the car on a small bracket in front of the radiator. I've seen them fall out, so they'd pick up heat from the radiator.

Also, the sensor does not update unless the car is moving. I'm not sure it is accurate when you first start the car if you haven't driven forward yet.

The A/C compressor should be off unless the temperature is above a certain level, in the 30s or 40s F (I forgot). That sensor is the one that needs to be accurate for this to work correctly.

I am having a problem in which my vent air is about 8 degrees too cold, intermittently. We'll drive around and it will be perfect, but at some point it is too cold. This is with no change in the sun on the sun sensor (top of dash), no change in cloud cover, nothing. They haven't seen any error codes, but I've got them learning more about the unit (2001 dual zone). It may be a bad sensor, fallen sensor, failed cabin air sampling fan (that's what I call it, not sure the name), or a bad controller. They are calling the maker to try to learn how to test it and how to read the codes from the front panel (all the temps, rpm, and other status readouts are available in real time). I may have to buy a VAG tool and watch them myself to look for intermittency.
