Anybody know for sure if the sport mode is or isn't adaptive? There are times when I'm in sport
mode and I have to drive like a granny, and I sure hope I'm not teaching the sport mode bad tricks.
Another sport mode question, for those of you that use it: How long can you drive at a steady speed of 65 or so before the transmission will shift from 4th to 5th? I swear the 4.2 will frequently stay in 4th at 65 for 1-2 miles; it's just like the pre-sport mode trick of driving with the selector in 4, rather than D.

I think in 'S' its only picking from about 50 of its 200 adaptive programs,
or something like that, vs. all 200 in 'D'.
It's probably staying in 4th until a) it figures you don't want to play right now, or b) you hit a level straight stretch (i.e. no up/down or sideways acceleration).
P.S. Just curious but, although you made Audi very happy, for the same money you could have 'fused' your purchases into an '02 S6 Avant and had enough left for an A4. You didn't want to combine the 'sport' with the 'avant'?

No, the S6 would have been nice, but the timing was wrong. I bought an 01 2.7 in Dec. 00,
right after my dad died, although I had really gone in with the intention of getting a 4.2, after looking at them for months. Then, my wife's Lexus RX300 turned out to be an absolute piece of crap, so we traded the Lexus in on the 02 4.2 in Nov. 01. So we had a 2.7 and a 4.2 for a while, and then we absolutely needed an avant or---shudder---an SUV when we got our second bullmastiff. So, the 2.7 became an Avant.
I didn't feel like springing for an S6 for my wife when I was driving a 4.2 already. I'M NOT FINMAN (hope he's reading this)! I'm just a poor corporate attorney, not a highly-compensated air force employee. :-)
