What purpose is the flap in bottom of air box?
I opened my filter box while vacumming the pre-filter area. I saw this spring-loaded, foam-lined flap in the bottom. I moved the spring aside to reduce the tension.
I previously had removed the air-intake guide off, to see if performance would change. I think each step has improved it. The sound is more aggressive also.
Should I remove the flap altogether? Will I regret that on rainy days?
I've considered removing the air box itself, and leaving the filter wide open - but on second thought, only for dry cool weather I think.
My first post - eh!

I now have a complete set of winter and summer tires. I'm looking for another set of rims - same size 16x7.5 (the "wine-glass" OEM size).
This evening I removed the first screen in the air box, and washed it. I'll leave it off for 24hrs to feel the difference. The inside of my air box is pretty dirty - so I don't think I want to remove that screen permanently.
I got a K&N installed on delivery, and noticed a definite difference from the previous (overnight) test drive. BTW Bought the car from Import Car Center http://www.importcarcentre.com/.
