Good News and Great News (or how I learned to love Recalls)...
Had the car in today for scheduled 40k service(loaner was black on black '02 S4!! w/3650 on the odo - nice little package w/terrific handling)nothing too unusual there except for brake fluid change which they didn't do @ 30k even though the pads and rotors were replaced and a couple of fault codes from the purge and r/r evaporator valve. Two of the better techs "double teamed" it and a 7:30 am drop off became a 2:30 pm pickup.
And now the Great News:
The guys handled the four recall items(I never had the fuel sending units changed)and to my relief decided to replace the bumper IN TOTAL!!
If you guys remember my "DANGER DANGER DANGER" post of 12/00, two weeks after I picked up the car, I had the bumper repaired for $150 by essentially having the Driver's side lateral Bumper brace replaced, which to the naked eye, left a slight gap where the front clip met the quarter panel. Also I was left with a slight protrusion from the body from a corner of the hid chrome housing of approx. a 1/4 inch.
Everytime I looked at the damn thing (which being on the driver's side was ALL THE TIME) I reminded myself of what a bonehead I felt like that night 2 1/2 years ago.
With the popularity of A6's in the Westchester County area, it's not surprising that bumper's are on at least a 3 week backlog.
I guess it pays to be a 20 year repeat customer who has referred many others to the dealership over the years (Classic Automobiles in Eastchester NY)
I hope evryone else's experience with this awful design flaw goes as smoothly.
Best Regards,
