Oil leaks, cam adjusters and extended warranties

Well, folks, the small oil leak I had on the front passenger side of the block was diagnosed at the 50K mileage check-up yesterday by HBL Audi (Tysons, VA) as "leaking cam adjuster seals."

After searching around this archive, it looks like this is an extremely common problem with the 2.8 engine.

Two things:

1. Thank you, extended warranty! It has almost completely paid for itself and I've only had this car 5 months!

2. I suppose tie rod ends aren't that far behind, either...

I love this car, but THANK HEAVEN for the extended warranty.

HBL seems to like to find this problem. They've already diagnosed it on my car--twice--and "fixed" it once. They also diagnosed it on my wife's car.

?? The cam adjuster on the passenger side is on the back of the block ??

Cam adjuster leak was the diagnosis...

but the leak was at the front (lower) portion of the block. To be fair, I couldn't exactly tell if it was actually "on" the block - there's so much crammed in that space... The leak was only visible from below, and didn't seem to be coming from very high up (at all).

I guess I'll watch is closely over the next several weeks...

Ah, the luxury of an extended warranty with ZERO deductible. This would be so stressful otherwise.
