Another question about speed...
Does anyone know what the theoretical limits would be on the different Audi's. Naturally this will vary with power plant and body styles.
Drag-rise increases to the square of speed, so at some point, drag rise will limit further increases in speed.
Aerodynamic mods will delay this point, as well as available power, so each care would be unique. Howerver it is apparent folks have pushed their cars pretty fast.
On a related note, Bobby Allison, a number of years ago, pushed a highly modified Audi pretty hard on the track. Set some records as I recall. Anyone have a link for the pictures and the article?

He set some times at Talledega when it was rumored that Audi wanted to enter NASCAR. Of course that died, them thar good 'ol boys weren't real keen on havin' any ferren cahh in their club. Now that Toyota has made a big splash in Craftsman truck, who knows? We've all heard the stories of some unlikely speeds posted, but I did read that the RS6 by Hoppen is good for something in the 190's. Some Mfg's like to have their cut-out speeds lower than others. Combination of Aero and hp.

Speed limit for US Audis is set to 130 MPH based on the tire rating. In Europe, Audis can run up...
to 160 MPH (250 Km/hr) stock. I'm guessing that Audi engineers use an upper limit of 200 MPH as their design limit for stock models to ensure that nothing will fail over time at the lower 160 MPH speed. This limit would then provide a builtin design safety margin.

For a stock 250Hp 2.7T 6spd, the max speed is 248kmh. That is 154mph. With my 290ps mod, the max
speed is advertised at 258 kmh=>160 mph. I tryied it and went over 160mph so I guess that, taking the tachymeter bias into account, this limit is probably correct.
In Europe, apart for some top sport cars like Porsche and Ferrari, the speed limiters are usually all set to 250kmh (155mph). All chip tuning options available in Europe do usually desactivate that speed limiter option.
