S6 Avant -- potential purchaser needs information

Seriously investigating an 2002 S6 Avant for potential purchase. Would like to hear from current or previous owners of S6 Avants as to what I should be aware of when looking at one of these cars. Do they have any particular weak points that I should make sure I inspect. Any quirks that I should know about? Have there been any major recalls of this car? What do you curent owners think of this car after a year or two of ownership? Your opinions are greatly appreciated by this Audi newbie.

Only potential downside beyond regular V8 cars is that

some S6 seem more prone to driveline vibration than others. It shows up most pronounced in cars that are lowered/have aftermarket wheels (or in some cases tires).

Ask nicely, and get a service printout from your dealer service dept (any dealer in North America can access the info, if you have the vin#). That will show previous service actions, and perhaps provide indicators of problem spots on specific vehicles.

No problems at 33K miles (2nd owner), buy with some form of warranty like Audi Assured

Love my car, 3 yrs, 56K, currently a tranny problem that AOA is covering, that is

the sole non-scheduled service, a big one admittedly, but still consider the S6 to be one of the most satisfying cars I have owned. Do get H-Sport anti sway bars as the best for the money mod available. As for vibration, I only had for a litle while when mounted wheels without hub-centric adaptors. The adaptors fixed this. Only possible complaint is milage avg. about 17.8 mpg, could be better if I didn't always drive in sport mode.

Have had mine for 3 yrs with no issues, intend to keep for quite a few more.

My only concern is the lousy quality of service at many of the dealerships. I seem to have remedied that by using an Audi only (non VW) dealer which is a little further away but worth the drive.
