Audi to replace chrome trim

Our chrome trim around the windows is getting the same type of oxidation that the trunk trim was getting. THough it is not bad, it is still noticable. Contacted our Audi dealer, explained to the service writer the problem. He said he would make some calls, on Friday he called back and said that AoA regional rep. had approved (sight unseen) the replacement of the trim on both sides of the car. So he ordered it in, should be here in about 10 days.

Which dealer? Is you car still under warranty?

McDonald Automotive, yes for about another month, then it becomes CPO

Pardon my ignorance, but it's aluminum, right...?...

Can't you/they just metal polish it back to "bright", instead of replacing it? Is there something I'm missing?

I've tried that on the trunk trim, but the clouds in the finish do not come out
