What are the top causes of Overheating?
I think my 1999 Audi A6 2.8 is overheating, It started about a month ago, but I do not really know what to do. The oil temp gauge sits at 230 almost 250f sometimes, after 2 hours of normal city driving the coolant(water) temp gauge goes past the middle mark where nomrally stayed before, almost to the next line. Plus the car feels hot inside the cabin and I can't turn the A/C on because the overheating becomes more evident even when the aux fan comes on. What could be wrong and what are the tops or common causes of the overheating. It't not really bad, It's still drivable since the oil temp has never gone past 250f. Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A comment....
You can have temp/fan sensors go bad, and there is always a chance of a faulty t-stat. I've found that the G12 coolant really does a number on the rad internals. We changed ours out at 60k, lots of internal calcification(flushed every year!)in it as well as the side seals leaking. The car was also running about 10 degrees higher then what it should(above the half way mark on temp guage). No more running hot, even in long traffic jams, it never goes past the half way mark on the temp gauge.
