Follow-up to my oil change question..Why are most people using 0-40 M1 instead of 10-40 M1

I am in the southeast (N.C) and was planning on picking some Mobil 1 tomorrow.
Just want to be sure about the weight before I pick it up.
.
Also, I was told that a 5 Qrt jug is NOT enough for the A6 and to get a case of 1 Qrt bottles. can anyone confirm this?

5 quarts is not enough, Use 5-30, 5-40, 5 -50 or 0-30, 0-40

If you had turbos I would say use only 0-30 or 0-40. Since you do not have turbos the 5-30, 5-40 or 5-50 should be fine. Synthetic oil is much better than conventional so the Mobil one is a great choice.

I use 0-40 M1 and my car takes 8 quarts I think.....

Because Audi/VW recommends a 5W-40 or 0W-40 oil

Audi/VW has a published oil quality standards sheet numbered either VW 502 00 or VW 505 01. This sheet lists all of the approved oils and their weights. Look down the list and you'll see that 10W-40 is not on the list.

Mobil 1 0W-40 synthetic is often used because it is widely available.
