Has anyone had their catalitic converters needing replacement?

Has anyone had their catalitic converters needing replacement?

Audi service stated that I had "cat codes" off of their vag-com. these are under the 8/80k warranty, and there is no charge from them to r/r.

I was wondering:

1] if anyone else had this problem
2] what would cause this?

Did a STFA, however, sill wonder why these things fail? anyone?

I see after the search that several folks have had to have these replaced. Some attributed to turbo failures, however my car does not have the turbos.

Mine have been dead for a while...

and I will probably never replace them.

Why do they/you think replacement is necessary?

Are they rattling? CEL lit? Is your car covered by the TSB for ECU reflash?

Very odd for both cats to fail at once.

Rich running can cause the cats to fail over time. The fuel that gets passed>

through the exhaust can burn them out.

Update: cel on again after having been cleared, went back to the audi dealer>>

Now they say only one is bad. It's a 8/80k warranty, and I'm ar 73k. Parts are ordered, I'm waiting to get the call from them to take the a6 in.

And no, there's no rattling, or other symptom besides the cel. they found this code when they ran the vag-com.
