4.2 secondary air pump flow problem.. Help
I have 2 2001 a6 4.2 cars with the same problems.. secondary air pump low flow. I am testing with group 077 / 078 and I'd like to know what sensors this test uses to accomplish it's testing. I'm getting 12 - 15 g/s at 2000 - 2400 rpm, during the test. The book says I should see 40 to 70. Is that right? What determines the flow? I can occasionally get a readiness of all 0's if I run the test enough times..
On both cars, the air pump works, solonoid's work, and vacuum lines have been replaced. I've swappped mass air flow sensors and that makes no difference.. Can a bad mass airflow sensor cause this test to fail? Perhaps I have 2 bad ones.. I desperately need help here.. Thx..

I got it:
Go to intergrated Engineering and get Secondary Air system block off plates. This system is for the 1.8T but will work with 2 kits for the 4.2. You bypass the entire secondary air system and using a resistor you can bypass the signal to the computer telling it that you have a bad pump. I had this problem with my 4.2 and the dealer gave me a huge problem. They wanted to charge me $1000.00+ to fix it. Easy fix at $90.00 with plates. Good Luck but this should solve your problem.
