Nominally, yes. Practically no.
Same tranny, but the diff is integrated with it and S6 gearing is lower. Won't match the 4.2 rear diff either and the TCU and likely will have cross model and cross year problems, including it will reeport a wrong gear ratio probably and kick on the CEL.

i'm more concerned with the problems i see reported with the A6 trans in general
and if i need to take all the same precautions with an S6. I'm not trying to swap parts or anything crazy

Off-subject, but there are a few S6 owners on here with 400hp.
None of them have trans mods, and I haven't heard of any issues so far. On the other hand, a stock 4.2 can blow the brains out of it's trans. So, it's kinda hard to judge the reliability of these units. Some will last the life of the car, and some won't.
