Well...power steering pump update
No leaks on the boots...anywhere. After adding fluid there hasn't been a peep. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
In the mean time...Replaced an 02 sensor today. Wasn't bad at all, cleared codes, car is happy.
However, while down there...well, FARK...DOUBLE FARK! G.D. rear seal is leaking BIG TIME.
Grumble, grumble...guess I have another project on my plate. Might just have to replace the clutch again as good measure while I'm in there.
R&R'ing the tranny wasn't on my radar.

rear seal? do you mean upper oil pan gasket?
the upper oil pan gasket is a common oil leak area. It looks like a rear seal leak because it coats the bottom of the transmission in oil. It is also a muth-f888er to fix. Engine must be suspended and front subframe needs to be lowered.

Dripping through the inspection hole (I think) where tranny (updated)
joins the motor. I can only assume it's the rear crank seal. But you are right, the lower part of the transmission is coated in oil. You think it's the oil pan gasket? Either way...doesn't sound like fun to me.

the oil pan is in 2 parts, the lower pan is easy. The upper portion leaks commonly and looks like it's coming from the rear main seal ..I would Search the archives to see if there is a write-up w/ pics. It would svck if you got the transmission our just to find out that seal is OK.

Rocky-in-Conn is right. Ironically I just STFA for this same leak on my car
and it looks like it is indeed the upper oil pan gasket-Fark! Coated tranny, with oil present at the junction between tranny and bellhousing. The only way I know it's not the rear main seal is because mine was just replaced by PO. Not looking forward to this job as it looks pretty involved.

Thanks, I'll have to look at that closely.
Might be worth just letting it drip a little here and there. Except that since I track the car it needs to be done. Either way, upper oil pan or rear main seal...PITA!
