Windshield for an 03 S6. 800.00????

My wife was getting some quotes to replace the windshield on our 03 S6. I have not replaced it since we have owned it (recently bought it used). Both windshield places we checked quoted us $ 760.00 for it. They said that the windshield for the S6 is a proprietary item with only one manufacturer. Is this really true? If so, will a windshield for an A6 Avant or 4.2 fit and are they cheaper? There doesnt seem to be any difference between them (or is there). I cant imagine the S6 having a "special" windshield. The only thing I can think of is the rear view mirror electrics (Compass, auto darkening) is the reason for the cost. I guess if it is true I will have to pay but IMO a windshield is windshield. Quite a difference from our A4. Anyone with an S6 had similiar experiences? Thoughts? Answers? Thanks

i've replaced a few front windsheilds, called my insurance company and paid my deductible and that's

all....i know the oem glass is more expensive, i would think it's the same as the 4.2

costs me 250 per windshield....for oem glass not bad

No OEM

Their is no OEM windshield.They are made by a few different manufacturers as there is not one that supplies Audi. Best windshields come out of England. OE dealer just gets a cut from same shop you could call.

My insurance advised $779 max coverage...

To replace after a major rock chip, including the deductible.

Replacement windshield for my wife's 2000 Discovery II is $1100. Arizona = rocks. This is the third time we replaced the windshield and fortunate enough to have full glass coverage with no deductable.
