cigarette lighter in the ashtray up front gets no power... what should i check first?

cigarette lighter in the ashtray up front gets no power... what should i check first?
anyone know what fuse is responsible for the 12v outlet in the center console? well today was my birthday and i ended up getting a Tom Tom GPS system...
back story, the cig lighter in the fron console has been stuck shut since the day i bought the car ( almost 3 years ago) and i had tried pulling a little. it wouldnt budge and i had no reason to use it so i just left it... today i got out the pliers and gave it a solid yank, popped right out. when i plug in the power cord for the GPS i got nothing. tried it in another vehicle and it worked fine. i tried a phone charger in my outlet and it didnt work either. its definitely the outlet, any suggestions on where to look first?

IIRC it is fuse 33 or 34...but before you go looking at that plug your
GPS into the rear cigarette lighter. They run off the same fuse and that will tell you immediately if it is a fuse or the outlet.

exact same thing happened to me
the problem was that the rear lighter had shorted out- and killed the fuse- it would re-blow the fuse every time I replaced it. Pulled the fuse, got the rear lighter out- and everything was fine.
I removed the lighter socket- and hard-wired a 2 socket unit under the passenger seat- makes for all the wires that run up to my tomtom (which I had to extend- but that's easy) and sat radio hidden- and no silly socket things where I can see 'em when I am driving...
