Rear Defroster Question
Drove my 1998 A8 650 miles back from Tampa to NC, a good eBay experience so far. Noticed the rear defroster grid switch when pushed, will not allow me to turn it off, stays lighted, the window grid works but stays on past the 10 minute timed period. Will only go off if I turn off ignition. What do you think...?...faulty timer relay...switch bad...? Location of this relay..?,how do you remove the center dash switches..? Cruise control was balky..."Resume" really didn't work but "Set" worked after repeated pushes. What goes bad in this area..seems like the stalk switch to me. Other than that, all the toys work, the car drove wonderfully with only a little hint of brake rotor warpage on initial light pedal push, handles much better than my '95 540i.
Thanks to all who have answered my questions, helped me with my A8 search. If anyone is interested, the fellow in Tampa who sold the car is a former Seattle resident who used to buy/sell Audi Quattro's to that area when they were economically booming, going to FL to find low mileage examples and taking back. He still loves them, now moved permanently to FL and picks up nice examples from Estate Sales where the Snowbird owner's died or results of divorced partners liqudating for cash...very professional, knows the cars, and happy with a reasonable profit. No commercial intended but the guy gives Used Car Dealers a good name (-
