Stuck Thermostat???
Over the last few days, my 01 A8 temp has risen to three quarters the way up the dial. The radiator fans also come on. It never gets to hot, but certaintly acts like a stuck thermostat.
Any suggestions/ideas?? Still under warranty, so will most likely take to dealer tomorrow.

Yes, it's the thermostat
The five valve motors have a history of this problem.....they stick, but not open.
It needs to be replaced, which I think consists of taking the timing belt off, but on the five valve motor it's not that hard.

Mine does the same it goes to around 70 deg C when the temp is cold, but normally sits at 90 dec C, I assumed it was because the ambient temp had dropped to single figures?
I just had the timing belt changed by the dealer, I would have though they would have changed it if you need to take it off to change it. The stat would cost next to nothing?

Repair completed
Well it was the thermostat. They also replaced the water pump when they were in there. They indicated that because the water did not circulate normally when the thermostat was closed, they have experienced a high rate of pump failure later, so they went ahead and replaced. Still under warranty, so one less thing I should have to worry about for a while.
The temp guage is now back to normal - Once warm, it stays at the quarter hash mark.
