Default I think my thermostat is going bad...my water temp only gets up to the first hash mark

in 20 degree F weather here in Wisconsin. In 40-50 degree outside temps it may get to the second. Where should my water temp be? Needle right in the middle of the guage?

My 2001 S4 has about 73000 miles. I recently replaced the Coolant Temp Sensor. VAG-CAM revealed that to be faulty.

Could it be that the thermostat is stuck open? Is this something that would be covered under the certified warranty?

TIA

Joel

Default Sounds like it is a bad thermostat

Had mine do that to me too. Got it covered under my CPO warranty

Default When they replaced the thermostat, how far did they "tear" into it?

Enough to make it worth while to change the timing belt?

Default You have to replace the coolant when you do the thermostat.....

Might as well get the timing belt job done, since thermostat replacement and coolant replacement is part of it. That is... if you haven't had your timing belt job done yet.

Default 2nd that ..... get the TB & water pump done while you are at it. Dealers will charge ~$700

for a thermostat job so might as well pay the extra $400 to get the rest done. At 73,000 miles, you are due for it anyways if you haven't done it already.

Default the hardest thing about doing the thermostat, TB, water pump is

taking the bumper off, the rest is bolts and connectors very easy.
i would say this is a great DIY job.

Default I got mine from ECS, but.......

my water pump went bad within 6 months. Might want to try PureMS
