Standing Fuel Consumption
Is there any information, or can it be derived somehow (without sitting about for hours waiting for the fuel to run out) about the amount of fuel a D2 4.2 A8 burns when at idle?

grams per second from the mass airflow sensor divided by 14.7?
At 4.0 g/s -- about what my car measured with air conditioning and electrical consumers switched off -- this works out to about 1.0 kg/h of fuel. Seems believable.
(14.7 is the air:fuel mass ratio which provides just enough oxygen to completely combust the fuel, and no more. Guided by the oxygen sensors in the exhaust stream, the fuel injection usually seeks this ratio, at which the catalytic converters work best.)

If the fuel is 10% ethanol, divide by 14.0 or 14.1
The ethanol contains oxygen, so less air is used for the same quantity (mass) of fuel. Such fuel is common in the US.
When looking to convert between mass and volume of fuel, make sure the density number comes with units (e.g. kg/l) attached. Failure to do so by Air Canada flight and ground crews caused a 767 to empty its tanks at 40,000 feet.
