Just added Mobil 1 0w-30 racing to the car, and changed the sparkplugs...Randy, have you made...
It could be just me, but it feels like the engine is more "free flowing" now, and maybe a bit faster. I know it is probably my mind playing tricks because I want those results...but it is possible. I changed from mobil 1 0w-40.
Also <A HREF="http://store.avlube.com/mo1r0wraoil.html">Mobile 1 0w-30 Racing</a> is not your normal Mobil 1 0w-30. The racing version contains much higher levels of anti-wear additives, and as far as I know, has never been available off-the-shelf anywhere.
Randy,
You are of the opinion that the 0w-30 racing mobil one is the best oil we could use for the S8, right? I noticed that you were nervous about adding the oil until your warranty was up. Please advise. From what I have been reading, it seems that it should have no issues, and our cars may only benefit from it. Please advise, thanks.
By the way, I bought the 0w-30 racing at Murrays Discount Auto for $7.99/quart off of the shelf. They are located in Michigan and Ohio, maybe Penn. Check out the website for locations. The dealer performed the oil change, and they had no objections to using this particular oil...
- Correct
2. <i>"I noticed that you were nervous about adding the oil until your warranty was up. Please advise."</i>
- The concentration of phosphorus (from an anti-wear additive) in Mobil 1 0w-30R exceeds the maximum allowed by API. As a result, since the oil has no API rating, it technically does not meet the specs for an approved A8/S8 oil. I suppose a hard-nosed dealer could use this as a reason to deny a warranty claim.

- Correct. The only potential issue at all is that if the motor burns excessive amounts of oil, those high levels of phosphorus could poison the catalytic converters (which is the only reason that API has a max P spec). The ISLAC GF-3 Standard's phosphorus specification is 1000 ppm max (GF-4 will me 800 ppm max), the 0w-30R runs ~1400. I'm not going to lose any sleep over this, and besides, I wouldn't be using an $8/qt oil in an oil burning car.
