40mpg ! Thats great, but I'd rather drive normal, and get only 35mpg. Why did they turn off all

electrical devices? I can't understand why the radio etc would make any difference for the engine. Does the alternator go on an off, and as needed to recharge the battery? Isn't it always recharging?

Ever notice a car's engine drop speed when you jump a dead battery?

Alternator drag goes up when the load increases.
