Default 2000 A8 AC Fan Question!

I can't stand the noise coming from my car's AC fan so I decided to replace it. I actually drove down to the local German part shop to get a new fan but apparently, there were 3 different types of connectors on the same fan assembly. I called a local audi dealership to get the part number and the description of the fan's connector but they couldn't tell me exactly what kind of connector it uses. However, I got the part number for the fan but my local german part special shop was unable to match that part number... Does anyone here know what kind of connector I need?

Thanks in advance!

Default What fan are you referring to?

The cabin fan? Didn't know you could buy anything but an exact replacement.

It could also be your coolant recirculation pump, you can see if that is it by unplugging it under the hood next to the air intake on the driver's side (LH).<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/heatac/fanreplace.html">http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/heatac/fanreplace.html</a</li></ul>

Default I'm referring to the fan that is mounted in front of the engine...

I will also check my coolant recirculation pump but as of now, my mechanic and I'm pretty sure that is the fan that's making a crazy noise. Anyways, thanks for the tip Paul!

Default Do you mean the electric or mechanical fan?

If it's the electric, it most likely is not running in the winter....the AC is off if it's less than 38 F or so....so unless the engine is overheating it's off.

I would check the auxiliary coolant pump motor.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/87737.phtml">Picture here</a></li></ul>

Default I think it's the electrical fan that only comes up when you turn on AC...

Honsetly, I don't know what I'm talking about so I will have my mechanic check it out again^^ Thanks Paul!

Hi, i just replaced mine to, it got so noisy when you first started the car and the aircon was on (ok ish when it warmed up) so i just had to fix it. Audi price here in UK 180 + vat, sod that !!!, so i trolled through ebay as we all do and found a guy selling them for 60....hey ill have some of that, ordered it and fitted no probs and now she is all quiet again

Once i got the old one out, you could wobble the fan on the shaft, so i assume either bearing or shaft wear after years of use.

I just looked thru the proceedure for the timing belt replacement (not front end removal) and used the relevant bits for fan replacment.

I had the car up on front ramps and also you will need to remove the lower engine undertray so you can get to the fan loom fixings / tie's.

With reference to the tie's / fixings, if your careful and cut the ties close to their mountings, you can re-use them by just threading a new small tie-wrap through them.

I would assume your 2000 (facelift) is the same as my UK 1999 facelift and your fan will have a 2 pin (blade) round connector, If you lift up the front of the car and look under wheel arch liner with the undertray removed, you can see the fan connector / loom tie wrapped to the main chassis "tube". Mine was on passenger side (uk car) yours "may" be opposite side

the part no on my "original" fan was
Part number 8D0959455c and is applicable to all these :-

Overall job took only about 60 mins )

Bye for now<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/tbreplace0.html">http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/tbreplace0.html</a</li></ul>
