Default Bizarre interior lights "feature"

Is this an electrical problem on my car, or an Audi engineered "feature"? With the ignition on and the doors locked none of my interior lights (dome light, reading lights, vanity mirror lights) work. I have to remove the key AND unlock the doors for them to work again. I find this mildly irritating as there are times I want the dome light or the reading light on while driving.

Comments anyone?

Default Before going to the dealer, try the 'Fuse Trick'

There are a variety of problems that owners have encountered relative to the TT's electrical system. Many (but not all) of them have been resolved temporarily or permanently by removing fuses #11 and #15 and then re-installing them. This process of re-seating the fuses will sometimes reset the electrical system and rectify the problem.

It's worth the 10 minute investment of time before hassling with the dealership.

Good luck.

Default That did it!! Thanks XTTATIC (more)

I checked my fuse layout - it's actually different from the manual (which says 11,15 as you said). On mine it was 14 - interior lights.

Once again, confirmation that this forum is great!!!

Thanks again!

Default Chris, I had this and got it repaired.

Have your dealer call my dealer. Speak to the Service Manager there and he will tell them EXACTLY what to do. A very easy fix. I promise!

He had to call a dealer in CA to get the fix for me!

The problem is a grounding issue. Something to do with a pin 2 with something. I never asked exactly what it was. It got fixed and that is ALL that mattered!

Chris to reproduce the problem do this:

Get in your car, lock the doors, then start the car. The lights WON'T work. You will also notice that the locks WON'T work either!

You need to turn the car OFF then open the doors and then everything will work.

The procedure to get the lights to work in the mean time is:

Get in, Start the car, lock the doors and the lights WILL work now. The door will also unlock. It is a PAIN IN THE ***, but their is a cure.

Just have your dealer give mine a call. I actually had my dealer try this out on a brand new TT that was on the lot. It had the same "bug". They fixed that one before fixing mine, I insisted on them getting it right the first time!

Let me know what happens.

Default Thanks very much! This forum is great!! (more)

Pulling the 14 fuse worked for me (partly). I.E., everything works as it should PROVIDED I don't lock the doors.

When i have my 5K service (currently 6 days and 1200 miles!) I'm going to ask for the permanent fix you outline.

This forum is great. Where else couyld you get information like this? Certainly not the dealer (in my experience).
