Failure of dome lights... Another gremlin?
Drove a friend into Queens last night. On the way down she noticed that all the interior dome lights were on (neither of us had touched the switches). While trying to shut them I noticed that the center switch was in the "auto" position, where the lights come on when the doors are open. The only way to kill the lights was to put the switch in the permanently off position.
An hour later, I'm lost in Brooklyn and trying to make my way into Manhattan to pick up another friend.... Dome lights were not totally dead (nothing I could do would get them on), leaving me unable to read the directions I'd written down.
Twenty minutes later, after I'd finally found my way, parked, went inside, and we were back in the car, they resumed normal operation.
Didn't someone mention this during TT chat a few months ago, and didn't it have something to do with the door locks? Could this--lights switching on by themselves--be the reason some people's cars have drained their battery?
