Borla, GIAC, Stereo and dome light repairs, random stuff....(long) ---->>inside
Question: I got in on the Garrett chip group discount from AWE. I know if the chip is ordered directly from Garrett they will solder a socket on your stock ECU, plug the new chip into that socket and give you your stock chip back. Does anyone know if this is what I can expect since I am getting the chip from AWE rather than from Garrett direct?
Picked up the car yesterday after having it in the shop 3 times to get my stereo's incessant beeping problem fixed and to get the dome light problem fixed. 3 times in the shop, 3 times can't fix sh*t! Twice they have told me they can't reproduce the dome light problem which is the biggest crock of sh*t I've ever heard. Either that or they can't follow a simple 3 step process.
1. get in car and close doors
2. lock doors from center console
3. start car
Test the dome lights and try to unlock doors. Doesn't work, does it? It will do it every time for me yet the morons at Andersen Behel in San Jose claim they can't reproduce the problem. B.S.!!!
Has anybody had either of these issues fixed yet? I have heard that there is a "pin 2" that needs to be grounded on the dome light problem, but the dealer can't reproduce the problem, don't think they've really tried, though I demonstrated it for them several times. Is there a fix for the stereo (beeping CD Player) problem? They replaced my throttle body a few weeks ago supposedly because they KNEW this fixed the problem. It didn't fix sh*t!
Anyway, I still love my car to death, can't wait for my GIAC chip, and wish my stereo problem would go away! Thanks for letting me vent!

I had my dome light issue fixed last week. If they can't reproduce they are liars of the highest order. It did not happen "sometimes" it was a constant and reproducable thing.
Your description of how to reproduce the problem is exact. They simply have not tried. To paraphrase Monty Python: "Run away! Run away." But sire, it's only a rabbit!" Make the trip to another dealer.

This is what service wrote on my invoice (I am of course making some grammar, spelling, and run-on sentence fixes), after addressing my CD player's whine. I plan on asking for more info when I bring it in for its 10K service next week.
NOTE--This reduced FM radio reception a bit. If you drive a great deal in rural areas, you might lose weaker stations a bit more than before.... They told me about this and said they'd finish the job once the service hotline got more information. For now, there is a definite improvement. No more whine and morse code!
"Steve Ruffo (regional service guy) got early release of ground upgrade for engine noise when CD on / R&I rear hatch trim, L/side B-pillar trim, door opening trim, A-pillar trim, L/side lower dash, and radio. Removed antenna amp. Reinstalled so no ground to body. Ran ground wire up to radio from amp. Still have a noise from radio on weak stations. A constant buzz does not follow engine speed, Hot line trying to get info on problem. Put car together so customer can drive."
If you send your ECU to AWE, it will come back with a socket soldered to your ECU and a Garrett chip in place. You should also receive a stock chip that can be plugged into the socket if you ever want to swap back to stock.
It is a pain opening up the ECU. The glue/goop that is used to seal out moisture is amazing stuff that VAG has come up with. The stuff reseals itself immediately. Don't get it on your hands! lol<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3285"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/ttsig.jpg" BORDER=0 alt="Click for Mods"></a>
