Default TT backseats...........an explaination!

I pulled in to the parking lot to my workout place today right next to a guy that was getting out of a 911. We exchanged the prefunctory "hey nice car" to each other and started talking about my TT. I mentioned the extremely small back seats and he said he had even smaller ones in the 911. He went on to say the only reason there are backseats at all is so that both the TT and 911 qualify in europe as a "touring class" sports car for racing.Has anyone else heard that??

Default Re: Plausible reason . . .

I remember 911s running "sedan" class (SCCA) because they had the "headroom" measurement (seat bottom to headliner) that qualified. Pretty good racing though, 911s getting narrowly beaten (thrashed or smoked an incorrect term here) by Lotus Corinas (I have seen with mine own eyes!) VERY exciting. (and amazing?)

Default When you open your door check the factory seal/template located on the side: it should say ...

"passenger car" in one of the categories. Again, for insurance purposes.

Default That has never been the reason why Porsche sold cars with a back seat!

The original 356 was based upon the VW floorpan. Without any backseat, there would have been a huge (wasted) expanse between the front seats and the engine. Please remember the engine is aft of the rear axle. Porsche had nothing else available to fill this space except back seats. In fact, it never dawned upon Porsche, that with this floorpan set up, not to include back seats. It had nothing to do with insurance or racing classifications.
