Default Damn but that ECU is difficult to remove... can't wait to put it back in and destroy the rest of my

hand. Can't imagine having two of them so as to be able to swap... and now I am reduced to the rodeo for the rest of the week... HOWEVER, next week Mrs Rascal is out of town and I will have the difficult choice of which Audi hotrod to ride, the chipped/borla'd, bilsteined, forged, TT or the plain vanilla S4.

Default I do it too frequently ...

Be sure the wipers are up on the window

Pull the rubber gasket away and then pop/prop the plastic cover against the open hood (pulling the left side up and as much room as you need)

Remove the small plastic cover near the pollen filter and then you can use a screwdriver to free the ECU (first time is hardest on that left clip)

You can 'yank' the ecu out by GENTLY tugging on the cables if you can't fit your hand in to pull the ecu out.

Its that plastic shroud, or cover or whatever... too bad that doesn't come off easily...

braced on the hood - it's a drag but I guess I've got it nailed from practice!

Default I just did mine. My wife was surprised that I was done before she could wash the dog.

I changed back to stock ECU for the service visit on Wednesday.

I changed out the ECU in well under 5 minutes and got all the bugs off the car before she was done with the dog.

Julie's description is accurate... much easier than reaching in as I've done in the past.

Default You gotta be kidding, Mrs Rascal went shopping, walked the dog, and made dinner while I was swearing

of course at first I didn't understand how the slide/locks worked on the elec connections.. that didn't help either.

Default It is very hard to describe how to do it...

...just pay for my ticket to Alaska and I'll show you. ;-)

Seriously, just start by prying up the black skirt. Pry it off of the windshield. If you do it gently you'll be okay. Some have cracked it. Once this is done, getting to the ECU is a breeze!

Default That one got me, too, on my A4 last year.

I found the whole thing to be a rather knuckle-busting experience the first time around, but now I can do it in no time at all.
