Default Major stress crack appeared on my windshield today (also a fuel sensor question)

It starts above the rear view mirror and makes a nice S. Parked the car in the 90+ degree sun for about 5 hours and it was there when I got back to it. Its smooth on the inside but you can just feel the crack on the outside. A few Q's:

Is this a common area to get them;
Is there a service bulletin for it; and
Has anybody had any problems getting their dealer to replace.
This was a problem common to early 225's(which TToad is) which was eventually solved, right?

My fuel guage is also acting up and I'm sure its the bad sensor. Is there a service bulletin for this one?

TToad is going in for its 12 month service on Monday so the windshield is timely, I guess!

TIA,
BarTT

Default I got one below the pass side wiper that worked its way up a little then towards the driver's

side. I have read about people getting their glass replaced by Audi. Was Jenner one of these? I'm not sure. My local dealer was funny about it and said that it was caused by a rock and therefore not covered by Audi. I thought about fighting it but two days later a rock did hit my glass and made another large crack on the other side. Since then it has happened a third time!! So I figure I'll wait till I can't see out of the car before I get it replaced. There is so much construciton traffic here. My poor baby is taking a beating. I wish I had gotten a clear bra when it was new. You should look into repairing the glass. I have and the damage is hardly visible now. My insurance covers three repairs per year at no cost to me. Even if I were to pay for it I think it is only $20 or so.

Don't know much about the sensor thing though - sorry.

Good luck with it all and let us know how it goes with your dealer.

Default Re: Major stress crack appeared on my windshield today (also a fuel sensor question)

I have 6 week old 2001 225 ttr. Only driven 4 times. Walked into my garage one day and I had the exact stress crack. Started behind the rear view mirror, dropped 6 inches and made a nice s hook to the right.

Called the dealer and set up an appointment. Was told they take a digital picture and forward to the audi rep for approval under warranty. They wanted to be sure crack was not due to rock etc. I went loaded for bear. Searched this forum and found a least 30 people with the same problem. Took a print out of a select few and handed them to the service manager and stated that this was a known problem. Glass was replaced under warranty.

Only one problem. Dealer damaged 2 new pieces of glass during the install so it took 3 pieces to get it right. Also sratched the clearcoat on the hood in the process which i did not see until i got home. Also for some unknown reason one of the plastic pieces under the hood that covers the fan was missing. I noticed this because one of the clips that hold my hood cover in place was hanging outside of the hood. Brought the carback the next morning and the service manaer had no clue as to why the part was missing as it is held in place with 3 screws. He replaced the part righ away. jury still out on the scratches.

Do not let the dealer give you the run around. Stress fracture is covered under warranty.

Sorry to take so long.

Re: look at the edge of the windshield.. if you see an indentation, then it's likely not stress..
