Considering 180hp Front Trak - Worth it??
hey...i'm a long time listener, first time caller with a few ???'s..
I've been considering purchasing a new A4 1.8T for a while now, coming from a GTI VR6 (chip, exhaust, suspension, short shift, etc) when i realized i could pick up a '00 pre-owned front trak TT for about the same as the new A4. I am a HUGE car enthusiast in general, and LOVE the character of the TT over the A4. I realize that they are essentially 2 different classes of cars, but my current lifestyle does not really dictate the need for a sedan, so it could go either way. But performance wise, will i be happy with the 180hp FT? i couldn't afford the 225/Q (obviously a stronger performer), but i would do some minor mods (APR exhaust, K&N, suspension, maybe a chip) to bump up the numbers...
Also, are there any common problems i should be aware of? and can i fit my snowboard (156cm - Ride Jeff Brushie if anyone cares) in the hatch with the seats down? I appreciate your time and responses - Jeff

Love mine, no problems....there have been some tranny grind issues, so really test drive
the car well and ask the owner if they've had any problems with shifting....hopefully, an honest owner. Also, what is the mileage??? warranty may still be in effect...3 years/50,000 miles

I have a 180FTrak Roadster, and I came from a VW as well, IMHO
I would say that you would be plenty happy with the FWD TT. I think the onnly downside you will hear from the owners here is that some of the people have had some tranny issues, like grinding 1st to second gear etc. This is not really anything different than what you are familiar with already having already owned a VW..
BTW, I came from a Supercharged VR6 Cabrio with 250hp and I feel that the TT (with my APR chip) is faster and more useable than the Cabrio EVER was.

Thanks. THat sounds like a sick Cabrio...did you live on the Vortex like i do (did; don't like their new format) . I suppose some Redline Tranny fluid might smooth out the shifter? Anyone else?

I think u can get a 225 for the cost of the 180 plus all those mods u talked about There are within 5k of each other. Just about anyway.
But other than that I have loved my 180, though after a few months I am craving a little more power, though I like the shift ratio on my five speed as opposed to the six speed 225.
