high-pitched whine on startup?

hi, the last two mornings my car has had a high-pitched whine when i first started. it eventually goes away (i live 5 miles from work and
it is gone by the time i get there). today, i shut the car off and you could hear the whine slowly fade like something was depressurizing or deflating. any ideas?

i have my 10K service on the 28th. unless this is indicative of a condition that will damage the car if i keep driving, i am inclined to wait 3 weeks to get it fixed. is this okay?

turbo spooling up and down...more noticeable in cooler weather

It should vary in pitch. oooooooooOOOOOOOOOooooo

this happens just on startup and the frequency is constant...

when i shut the car off it drops... OOOOooooooooo
but initially it is constant.

Perhaps not the turbo then. Loose belt or something.

Depending on how annoying it is, get it checked out asap or at next service. I don't think it's a really bad thing.

Sounds like its probably the secondary air pump...

does it sound a little bit like a vacumn cleaner? The secondary air pump adds fresh air to the exhaust when the car is cold to help speed combustion in the catalytic converters. This may be what you hear.
