Default Electrical problem - let me know what you think...

My girlfriend's 180 Roadster developed something peculiar yesterday: the dome light won't go off.

The switch is set for the middle position, which should be causing the dome light to go off when the doors are shut. Well, the light stays on all the time.

If the switch is turned to the permanent 'off' position, then it stays off. So its no biggie, but rather annoying.

While we are at it too, the switch on the centre console that locks the doors won't work. Doors can be locked from the keychain gizmo, but that is it.

Please, don't tell me TT's share electrical problems like British cars do!! Anyway, I realize the dealer will have to do their magic on the problem - just wanted to know if anyone else here has had this problem too...

Regards,
joe

PS: TT's rock. The weather is just getting perfect for driving with the top down - wooohooo...

Default Thanks for posing the question.

I have the same problem. It comes and goes and seems to be linked to the car being unlocked by the remote.

I wouldn't worry about it being like a British car. ;-) NOTHING from Germany is THAT bad!

Default This is an old problem- posted many times...

I think the fix is a ground somewhere in the locking system. My 225TTR did it when new (7/00) but hasn't done it for allmost a year. I remember some post saying that closing the drivers door before inserting the ignition key prevents it, don't know why but seems to work.

Default Sounds like the lock/light bug from 2000. Thought they had it licked.

You need a new ground somewhere in the Central Locking Module. Your dealer should know, if not AoA Techline certainly does.

Default Did you try.....

resetting the software by locking and unlocking the car WITH the key (not the remote)? I had the same problem with my fuel cap and trunk release. I did the reset as mentioned above, and everything worked fine. Not sure if it'll work in your case, but it's worth a try.

check the connector at the interior monitoring control module[under trap door directly under the handbrake handle] for being partially plugged in.also is the red light in the middle of the lock/unlock switch lit?also check the lock switch itself.if the car has the console cupholders and are used, something may have splashed in,pop the switch out,if the dome light works normal noe,the switch was freaking out central locking.

Default Thank you for your answers...

Guys, thanks a bunch! I appreciate your replies and I will pass on the info to my girlfriend.

Its funny, I got to drive the TT tonight, and all is working just fine once again.

Nevertheless, the dealer does need to check this out...

Once again, thanks.
