Default Adding MP3 player (JVC KD-SH99)

I have 2000 TT Coupe with Concert base system- no CD changer. I want to add the JVC SH99. as well as an older JVC 12 CD changer I have. I am getting mixed signals about this. CAN i do this without replaceing the Speakers? Crutchfield says
YES but doesnt have any info about NON BOSE systems (which I might be confused about but the base system is NON Bose right?) Also does the KD-SH99 mount flat enough so that there is clearence for the TT door to close on it?? also does the remote work thru the closed door? Obviously Im a complete beginner and need some help here. Any will be greatly appreciated.

Default Start here. This will give you an idea of what it will take.

Also, go back here.

https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/366769.phtml

If your MP3 player has pre-amp outputs as well as speaker outputs, you are OK.
Use the speaker outputs to drive the front speakers, and the pre-amp outputs, to wire into the harness, to drive the power amp in the rear of the car.

If all you have are pre-amp outputs from the MP3 player, you are hosed. You will have to find another amp to drive the front speakers

Wiring in a different Head unit.

I was looking at the same head unit. I would be very interested in the outcome.

Default UPDATE on this...

I looked at the spec on this unit. It has a built in 4-chan. amp, and 3 sets of pre-amp outputs.
You can wire this unit directlty into the existing TT wire harness.
The front speaker outputs go the to front speakers, and the pre-amp output for the rear, go to the existing power amp.

It's easy.

Default Ok, let me see if I undertsand

The head unit powers the fron speakers. which I assume are the ones in the door.

Then the pre out hooks up to the with the rear amp that powers the "rear" speaker and the sunwoofer. By rear I assume you mean the ones in the panel behind the seats.

A couple of questions...

Does this apply to Bose and non-Bose systems in the Roadster?

If the head unit is going to power the front speakrs, can you change the front speakers to whatever you want?

Thanks

Default reply.

You have it right, for the Non-"Bose" upgraded system.
I do not know if this applies for the "Bose" upgrade.
I suspect that the fact the upgrade system in the roadster, calls for a "5-channel" amp, that the upgrade amp runs all 5 speakers.
If you look closely at the label from the 'Concert' radio, you will see pre-amp outs for LF,LR,RR,LR.

Yes, you can then replace the front speakers with anything else. They are 4 ohm.
Take the door panel off, and you will see.
They are 6.5" mid's and 2" tweeters.

Default repy for your reply

I have the Bose upgrade. I don't want to do a whole system at once, rather a piece by piece.

So I wonder if I could just replace the front speakers and run them off of the new H.U. or a seperate amp just for them.

Whaddaya think?

Default If you gonna go with a HU that has a built-in amp, then you can replace the front speakers...

and use the HU amp to run the fronts.
