Default Saw that yesterday but it doesn't address the breakdown of talks w/ ATT & ***.

Right now it appears as though Comcast is the last significant cable operator left in discussions w/ Excite@Home.

I've called that 800 # a bunch of times but the "updates" are infrequent and uninformative.

Default Didn't know anything about until yesterday

when I saw the post, does it look better or worse for comcast, you mentioned that they are the only company still talking? I refuse to go to Verizon DSL, but that is the only other option....oh well!!!

Default That sucks as Jax was AT&T's largest installed base of cable modems

they tested here(actually MediaOne) before AT&T bought them.

I have DSL.

Default News flash: AT&T Broadband customers formerly served by MediaOne will NOT have any service

interruption as they were already on a dedicated network seperate from @Home. This includes large markets such as Atlanta and Jax. See att.com for the full press relase.

Default I'm tired of this...(sorry, long and whiny)

I signed up with @Home almost 4 years ago when they were just @Home. Since then I've seen them become Excite@Home and then AT&T @Home. I was very skeptical when AT&T became involved. One week after they took over my region (SF Bay area) my service went down. It coincided with a free set up and 1 free month promotion so when I called customer support they said they could send someone out in about 8-12 days. I asked why so long and they said due to the special promotion they were backlogged and that's the best they could do. I replied that existing customer's should get first priority - they essentially said "well that ain't gonna happen". I ended up finding out the problem (a deteriorated junction box outside) and temporarily fixed it myself. They showed up 5 days later after I made a real pest of myself. Prior to AT&T's involvement, customer service was always prompt from @Home - I was never down for more than 1 day. Maybe it's just me but since AT&T got involved service has been worse, the connection is slower(I know, more users has a lot to do with that) and they have increased the fees. Now this! I'm still not sure who the villain is here, maybe both sides, but it's a shame that it has resulted in this - once again the consumer gets the shaft. Oh sure, It'll get resolved and our rates will most likely increase again, adding insult to injury. I also have a business where I use DSL - same scenario there. My provider, MegaPath used Northpoint which closed it's doors without warning. After several weeks of dial-up they moved me to Rhythms communications which went bankrupt after a few months. Now I have been moved to Covad, which of course recently filed for bankruptcy! It's still alive, but who the hell knows what's ahead. And of course for all this significant inconvenience my bill has risen with each migration. What baffles me is how can major companies with superior technologies, cable and DSL, continuosly drop the ball while good ol' dial-up continues to plod along with relatively fewer headaches. Reminds me of the Tortoise and the Hare - literally. The bottom line is this - all I want is a reliable high speed service that will be around for a while - if it costs a little more so be it, just stop jerking us around using us as pawns. And yes, I'm now using a major dial-up service (hint, its initials are AOL) and yes, it sucks but at least they know how stay afloat so I can vent - sorry, I'm just pissed about this whole mess.

Verizon DSL is ok. It's not bad, it's not great. It's just ok. Occasionally, it drops out.
