Default Just got back from my first drive in the snow with Blizzak MZ-01 tires...

<img src="http://laer.nu/tt/thumbs.php?picture=snowtt3.jpg">

...And I am very impressed. They actually grip just as good in the slush as they do in the rain. I've been questioning whether I should have gone with the LM-22s or MZ-01s since I bought these, but this settles it.

I went and played in an empty parking lot for a little bit, and decided it just wasn't a lot of fun because I had too much grip! I could barely spin the tires from a stop. ESP didn't even come on at all from a 3k launch. ABS made a brief appearance when I pretty much slammed on the brakes from about 30mph. They may not be a whole lot of fun, but they sure seem safe.

Default This gives me the opportunity to ask...16" wheels work on the 225 right?

Btw, glad to hear you guys are finally getting snow out there....was starting to think that I shouldn't have left Chicago
TIA,
Dale

Default 16" wheels work on the 225 right? Yup!

Second year with Arctic Alpins. They work better in our snow/ice conditions, than the Pilots.
(but no snow or ice left here in Minneapolis from 2 weeks ago.)
Someone reported last week the Pilots were poor on heavy snow.

Default The Mille Miglia Spiders work in 16"...At least with stock brakes.

I'm pretty sure not all wheels will work in 16" because they don't all clear the brakes. I've got Mille Miglia Spiders on right now, and there was some question as to whether or not they would fit, but they do. One person mentioned something about them coming into contact with his suspension, but I haven't seen that with mine.

Default I definitely plan on giving that a shot, but I don't think it's actually cold enough to freeze.

Once it stops snowing, all this stuff will be gone. In fact, I can already see the snow in the parking lots starting to go away.

Default What's the diff between LM-22's and MZ-01's?

BTW, I mounted my LM-22's nearly 2 weeks ago in anticipation of snow but we haven't had any yet. At least it's been cold enough to justify the Blizzaks over the hockey-puck high-performance tires for cold weather driving, but I want at least one day of snow so I can try out the TTQC in it!

One day- that's all.

Default LM-22s are supposed to be better all-around tires.

MZ-01s are all out snow/ice tires, but feel VERY mushy in the dry compared to other tires. I probably should have gone with LM-22s because we have dry roads through most of the winter, but too late for that now. If lived in a place where I had to do a lot of driving on roads that don't get plowed in a timely matter, the MZ-01s would be the obvious choice.

I've had mine on since the middle of November, and this is the first time it has been justified. There have been several 60+ degree days, and even a few over 70 degrees...Very few under 40.

Also, I believe the MZ-01 is Q rated and the LM-22 is H rated. I just had my LM22s installed today.
